In each family resides an unadulterated geek. One person from each household, a Chosen One. One person steeped in the lore of comic books, science fiction, action and horror movies; a person born with the strength, patience, and zeal to battle the unimaginative and the timid, to stop the spread of their blandness and the swell of their numbers. Hank Wagner. The Family Hour.
These are quite possibly my three favorite quotes of all time. Sadly, I really don't have any reason to quote them in real life, so, I'll use them here:
" Our lives are geared mainly to deflect the darts thrown at us by the laws of probability. The moment we're able, we insulate ourselves from random acts of hate and destruction. It's always been there - in the neighborhoods we build, the walls between our hourses, the warines with which we treat the unknown. One person in six million will be struck by lightening. Fifteen people in a hundred will experience breast cancer. One child in 30,000 will experience serious limb deformity. One American in five will be victim of a violent crime. A day in which nothing bad happens is a miracle, a day in which all the things that could have gone wrong didn't. The dull day is a triumph of the human spirit, and boredom is a luxury unprecedented in the history of our species." - Douglas Coupland, all families are psychotic
"OK, I'm cookie dough. I'm not done baking. I'm not finished becoming whoever the hell it is I'm gonna turn out to be. I make it through this, and the next thing, and the next thing, and maybe one day I turn around and realize I'm ready. I'm cookies. And then, you know, if I want someone to eat— or enjoy warm, delicious cookie me, then... that's fine. That'll be then. When I'm done." -Buffy, End of Days (7.21)
"Passion. It lies in all of us. Sleeping... waiting... And though unwanted... unbidden... it will stir... open its jaws, and howl. It speaks to us... guides us... Passion rules us all. And we obey. What other choice do we have?... It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion, maybe we'd know some kind of peace. But we would be hollow. Empty rooms, shuttered and dank... Without passion, we'd be truly dead." - Angelus, Passion ( 2.17)
